Vanilla Ice Cream (Murphy 2019) 6" LRe 28" Dormant Diploid
Cream with a good green throat. Ruffled edges. Starts out cream, bleaches to near white on hot days. Very fertile and one of the best parents for white that I have used. There are only a few plants here that bloom this late into the season.

Ruffled rose-lavender with a large green-to-cream throat ending in a slight watermark.
In the late garden, a tall clump of Vintage Virginia makes a real statement. Opening slowly, it looks a little old-fashioned in the morning, but opens to a wide bloom later in the day.

Intense watermelon red with a deep green throat. Tiny white midrib, tight ruffling. The bright blooms are held on 5-way branching, like tree trunks, often with multiple blooms open per scape at once. Bud count about 26. Puts on a great heavy bloom show in late July. Old-fashioned look but incredible performance.

This very white bloom is consistent and high-performing. It has the strength from RADIANT MOONBEAM, and the grace and narrowness from SKINWALKER. It is 3-way branched, with about 22 buds. The bloom has good substance and is slightly ruffled. Easily pod and pollen fertile. Delicious.

This is a seed selection of Cleome hasselariana. Over 25 years, we have selected the most vigorous, branched, hardy, sunfast, and cleome beetle resistant Lavenders, Purples, and Violets. Colors do not come true in this selection, but about 80% of the seedlings will be of the above colors. 20% Pink and Rose. No reds or whites.
What does come true from seed are very tall, wide, branched, and vigorous plants that will reseed in your garden for years. Requires full sun to part shade. Period! ( but water helps!)
A packet of at least 50 seeds is $8, plus $2 for shipping.
Plant in spring or fall, very shallow, in moist, well drained soil. In our garden, volunteers come up and we just remove what we don't want. Comes up just fine when using pre emergent herbicides too, if you do use them.

WOODHENGE NATURAL (Murphy, 2016) Fall
42” M 7.5” Dormant, Diploid, Extended UF-Crispate
Out of Negative Image by a vigorous patterned seedling.
An unusual patterned combination of colors- Red and rose dotted bitone with a darker red band, tan to cream edge, cream midribs, and yellow green throat. The dark red color and the edges fade during the hot days making the combination and pattern even more striking. Sunfast to the mid 90’s here. 3 branches, 23 buds, fertile both ways. Almost all of the kids have this type of patterning. An improvement on its very good parent, Negative Image, because it is quite vigorous.
Triple fans or larger. $20
Dark red-purple Unusual Form Crispate and Cascade with very large green throat and white to pink midribs. Twists and curls, with ruffles. 4 branches, 24 buds, attention getting!

26”Tall, Early with reliable rebloom here, 5.5” Dormant Diploid.
Lavender purple with a hint of brown most days, reddish purple sometimes. Patterned with cream, purple, and charcoal eye, and unique light cream very short midribs. It is also a short for me plant at 26”, so Short Ribs was appropriate. Rebloom here is quite good, and it blooms long and slow so it has a very long season of bloom. Ruffled and veined, tiny green throat. Three branches and 15 buds.

Murphy, '05 - 51" La 5.75" dor.dip. Gold, piercing red eye, lavender midribs, orange throat with green heart.
Gold blooms with striking red eye, unique lavender red midribs, and orange throat with green heart. An awesome color contrast, on tall scapes with decent branching and a budcount of 20, makes this one stand out. Fragrant, out of a Benzinger seedling by NUCLEAR MELTDOWN. Sibling to BARNEGAT LIGHT and this year's COROLLA LIGHT.
This is the only plant that I have seen with Lavender/red midribs.
(Reed, 2013) 28" La 6" dormant, diploid, fragrant! Unusual form crispate.
To add calm beauty to the late season garden, this one has it all! Early in the morning it is trumpet shaped, looking like an Easter Lily, with purple stripes on the reverse of the sepals. Later in the morning it opens flat, with a soft cream-white face. It is a reverse bitone, with lavender on the sepals. Edged and stippled in lavender. It has sturdy scapes with four-way branching, and a bud count of 22. It makes a neat mound of blooms for a long time in late July and August. Bloomed until August 31 in 2012. Out of Lola Branham. Pod and pollen fertile.
