Cream yellow with huge purple-black eye feathered out onto petals (eye splits on light midrib) green throat. Up-facing ruffled blooms. Excellent branching (4-way) with 18-20 buds. Still blooming at the end of July, tall and showy.
Parentage: (Pig Latin x Wild Chicken) - $100 double fan
FOGGY BOTTOM (Reed, 2016) 56” M 6” dormant, diploid, 3 branches 24 buds, UF cascade
Foggy Bottom is one of the oldest neighborhoods in DC, a mysterious low area near the Potomac River, where the State Department resides (who knows what goes on there). The daylily is a secretive purple, with a light green to white throat radiating out onto the petals and tepals until it merges into the grape color midway. The blooms are on tall, nicely branched scapes, and recurve to display the blending of fog and darkness. It is from a cross of PURPLE ARCHITECTURE x JUST JESSIE. Pod and pollen fertile.
Lavender pink with extremely large chartreuse and cream throat, extending way out on the tepals. Cream midrib on petals.
As the day progresses, the flowers lighten, but are sunfast, and curl markedly.
Strong 30" scapes with 19 buds and lots of rebloom here.
Out of (Desperate Housecats x Thank You Dad).
Sinfully fertile. Kids are curly, with big throats
(Murphy, 2019) 34" E 7" dormant diploid, UF – cascade
Strong red with shocking green throat. Blooms for over 2 months here. Many visitors comment on the color. 3 branches, 20 buds. Sunfast to 95, with excellent drought and wet weather tolerance. Very fertile and an excellent parent. Won best seedling at RADS show. Parentage: (Green Throated Robin x Rose F Kennedy).
Very clean and clear color.
This large purple near-spider is held on very stiff scapes. It has a black band and lemon throat, instant rebloom, and is very close to sunfast. It is an EMO, CMO, and extended, so, basically always open. Two branches and and 26 buds, with a 5 week bloom season here. Out of GREY WITCH by BLACK ICE. Pollen fertile. Sibling to ZERO TO SIXTY. Excellent parent for sunfast blacks.
Many people are finding that this is an award worthy plant. I have no modesty in saying that I think so too. Just striking, and with excellent plant habits.
This dark red star is named in honor of Fred Benzinger, who was a mentor to many in this area. It is out of two late Benzinger seedlings, and carries a lot of those famous Benzinger characteristics of toughness, good scapes, and carefree culture. It is somewhat old fashioned looking up close, but from a distance is one of the best reds in the garden, with yellow throat, yellow midribs, and lots of blooms. 5 branches, 34 buds, strong bud-builder, very sun-resistant, and in bloom until September. Very fertile and a good parent for very late reds.
Gorgeous color on even the hottest days of August and into the first few days of September here.
FROG FAIRY ( Murphy, 2025) Fall
36” Midseason rebloom 7.5” dormant diploid, 2 branches, 17 buds
Bright pink with lighter pink ruffled edge. Light watermark, chartreuse throat, green heart. Nearly perfect every day, no matter the conditions. Blooms are held away from each other because of wide branching and spacing. Fertile both ways, good parent. Sibling to She Kissed The Frog.
Unusual Form: Cascade
Parentage: Frog’s Hair x Garden Fairy
Double Fan: $80

(Murphy, 2020) 24" EM 7" dormant, diploid; 4 branches, 20 buds, UF cascade
Parentage: ((Incessant x Just Jessie) x Appalachian Trail)
Rich, clear pink cascade with rose veins, and a green throat. Won best seedling in the Richmond show. Very heavy bloomer and can have many more buds with good culture. A rare, front of the border plant from Jim! Very fertile and an excellent parent with 8!!!!!!! future intros from it. Very sunfast.
2021- We have a couple of plants in clumps now and I counted 6 branches on most of the scapes.
Excellent show, garden, and breeding plant.
Parent of She Kissed The Frog, Balderdash, and at least 6 future intros. One of my not so secret hybridizing weapons.
Also a great show plant.
Hybridizing on a budget? This is everything that I look for in a parent.
Veined lavender with reddish-lavender eye, cream-green throat, and lighter edges. It has excellent, well-spaced 5-way branching and 33 buds! It is fertile both ways, sunfast, and blooms a long time. It is out of ((Evil Gnome x Negative Image) x Cartwheel Galaxy).
Second image is at the end of a hot day.
(Margo Reed Indeed x Monacan Trail) 4-5 branches, 30 buds
Cream to white ruffled cascade with green throat and chartreuse lines extending on both sides of the midrib 3". High performing, quite tall cream to near white. Sunproof and rain resistant substance, with a quite long bloom period. Pod difficult, pollen fertile. Not many creams have a great plant supporting the blooms, but this one does; vigorous, branched, tall, and strong.
I have received many positive comments on this cultivar, most from north of here.
(Reed, 2018) 46" EM 6.5" dormant, diploid, Unusual Form.
Garden Fairy is a dark rose pink with lighter pink ruffled edges, and has a watermark and green throat. It is a narrow form, cascading and pinching. This is the seedling known as "Reedling 22" which was seen at the AHS National Convention in 2017 at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens Region 3 Hybridizers’ Bed. It won best seedling. It has excellent 4-way branching and a bud count of 30. It often presents multiple blooms open per scape. Pollen and pod fertile, it is a good breeder.
The parentage is (purple seedling x (Scarlett’s Web x North Wind Dancer)). A favorite here.
Has just won an Honorable Mention (HM) , hopefully the first of many awards!
(Murphy, 2020) 46" L 8.5" dormant, diploid; 7 branches, 37 buds; UF-Cascade.
Parentage: ((Running Late x Jim's Evil Grin) x August Snow)
This is an amazing cream to white cascade with a green throat in the morning, and whiter petals and more yellow throat in the evening. Tremendous branching and budcount, which will be higher than registered with good culture. Starts late and blooms a long time. Margo’s favorite, but it is mine, mine, Ha Ha! Slightly pod fertile, very pollen fertile, excellent parent.
Large parchment/cream with intensely contrasting dark purple feathered eye. Lime green to lemon yellow throat, very ruffled edges. Still blooming at the end of July. Very tall and showy. 2-3 way branching, 12 buds. Named for a favorite son-in-law.
Parentage unknown. - $100 double fan

5 branches, 26 buds. Parentage: (Playpal x Kathryn June Wood)
Red lavender with chalk watermark, cream to light green throat. Ruffled cream edge. Quite an intense and unusual color, seen across the garden. Very sunfast. Excellent branching. Pollen fertile. Crazy looking kids.
After many years, I decided to introduce this Fred Benzinger seedling. It is a gold-cream self, Unusual Form crispate with a distinctly triangular shape. It starts blooming when almost every daylily has finished and blooms for 4 or 5 weeks here in decent conditions. It has strong scapes, is fertile, and easily grows in most conditions. It takes drought, heat, cold, and rain with ease. Has thrived below zero, frozen for 3 months, and survived over 100 in the summer. It has 5 branches, and about 25 buds in decent but average conditions. It does do instant rebloom here, extending the bloom season. It makes a showy clump, and is as faithful and dependable as a Golden Retriever.
(Reed, 2013) 38" MLa 8" dormant, diploid. Unusual form cascade.
Named for one of my favorite wild areas, this one is as strange and spooky as the name implies. The color is an elusive grayed lavender blend with a green throat. The bloom cascades in graceful curls, and throws polys often enough to be fun but I’m not committing to a percentage. It has 3 branches and 14 buds, and is pollen and pod fertile. Parentage unknown. Blooming heavily in August in 2016.
(Murphy, 2019) 48" MLa 7" dormant diploid, UF - cascade
Large cream-white with very large green throat, ruffled and creped. Very strong erect scapes with 2-3 way branching and 15- 20 buds. Long bloom season- it bud builds in good conditions, and can be in bloom for 11 weeks. 100% sunfast. Fertile both ways, and an excellent parent. Parentage: ((Eyelash seedling x Give Me Eight) X ( Just Jessie x Magic of Oz)).
In very high demand. Great garden presence, and excellent parent for Jim's future intros.

Striking combination of colors: lemon with etched reddish-lavender eye, bisected with cream midribs, green throat, washed lavender tones as well. Skinny red partial edge. When this is blooming, many people go right to it, over other seedlings. Proliferates heavily. Very fertile. Sunfast to over 90.
Parent of several future intros.

Very tall, creamy-tan pink blend with sharp reddish purple eye, yellow throat, and cream midribs bisecting the dark eye. Blooms face out, looking at you. Very sunfast, excellent parent. Fertile both ways, but difficult pod parent.
Has extremely thick, strong scapes, which hold up the numerous blooms. I call them Iron Scapes.

Parentage: (Green Tea x Garden Ghost), two of my best cream UF’s.
Pollen fertile only, but my, what great children. 2 branches and 21 buds, but more buds after bud building.
(Reed, 2007) 36" M 6.5" dormant diploid Unusual Form-Cascade
I was so excited when this bloomed that I registered it immediately. I was sure it would be an introduction. After a couple of years of letting it multiply, it is ready! The bloom is a pale-lavender, almost translucent, white. The throat is cream. It presents as a very curly cascade, on 4- and 5-way branched scapes. I have seen as many as 6 blooms open on one scape. It is different from so many flat whites, in that it looks carved out of ice. Pod and pollen fertile. One of my best. Just a few available.
38” Early 6.5” dormant diploid, 3 branches, 14 buds
Peach-cream with a purple band and a big lemon-lime throat.
The form (Unusual Form Crispate/Cascade) is powerful – recurved cascading petals and curled, pinched, and twisted sepals. Good substance. Reblooming in late July.

(Murphy-JP, 2023) 34" EM Re 5.25" Dormant Diploid, UF Crispate
Complicated colors of pewter lavender with green throat blending to cream white throat, that extends onto tepals. Lavender cream pattern edged purple. Veined and ruffled. Distinction in flower pattern and form makes this one unique in the garden. There is no question that this is Imperial Topaz and it will not get mistaken for another flower! Absolutely wacky and interesting children. Fertile both ways. Blooms long and slow, not all at once, and reblooms well here, especially in August and September. 1 branch and 12 buds in marginal conditions.
Out of ((Morrie Otte x Faulkner seedling) x ( Almira Buffalo Bone Jackson x lost tag))
Bright reddish lavender with a greyed edge on the petals. Cream midrib on petals, with a green throat.
The very curly and twirling blooms are attention getting!
I registered this plant, with short height, 3 branches and 13 buds, because that is what I counted on the line outs. Expect much higher numbers.
Out of (Ocean Depths x Amethyst Tears).
Pollen fertile and almost not pod fertile. Great kids with blue green foliage and extreme curling.
2021- I recorded up to 5 branches and up to 25 buds this year.
Indelible (Murphy, 2026) 32” ERe 6” dormant diploid (“Blue two”)
Cream lavender with large saturated blue-ish purple eye. Occasional patterning, cream midribs, small green throat. 3 branches, 23 buds.
This is the long awaited “blue 2” seedling that puts an indelible stamp of a huge eye on almost every kid. Not only a supreme hybridizers plant, but a great garden plant too. Hard to pass it up with that look. It will pattern to a small degree, but mainly a solid eye. I have at least 7! Future intros from it! Reliable rebloom once established here.
Parentage: (Energy x ((Evil Gnome x Pale Behemoth) x (Bo Knows x Faulkner
seedling))).
We sold out of this one in less than a day, and have a waiting list. None will be available for at least one or two years. Jim
(Murphy J.P., 2025) 47" EM Re 6" Dormant Diploid, UF - Cascade
Yellow cascade with strong, feathered black red eye, cream midribs, and large green throat. The contrast of very dark eye on a light background with most blooms facing out is great. Exceedingly strong scapes. It is out of (Stingray Point x Clearly), which both have iron scapes. Those three and my Head In The Clouds yield a new direction for Diploid UF breeders.
3 branches, 27 buds, Bud Builder and some rebloom mean a really long bloom season.
An apt name for this brilliantly colored cherry red spider with a crimson star next to its yellow throat. As saturated a color as I have in the garden, EMO, and sunfast at 100F. I selected through this entire cross of 100 for blacks and reds that were completely sunfast and this was the result. One or two branches and 20 buds, with moderate budbuilding let this one bloom for about 6 weeks. Out of EGGPLANT ESCAPADE by CHIEF BLACK HAND. Fertile. Many of the children carry the distinctive brilliant red, sunfast, and late characteristics.
Parent of 3 of my intros.
HARD DORMANT BLUE GREEN FOLIAGE that is late freeze resistant.
Reddish Purple with green throat, blending to cream and cream midribs.
This is a plant that is striking at a distance because of its height and contrasting cream throat. Up close, it is unusual in that each bloom tends to have a different shape. Very strong Bud Builder. Occasionally reblooms. Scapes are very sturdy and strong. It is in bloom for two and half months in good conditions. 4 branches and 27 buds.
Parentage: (It’s Glad Cows Don’t Fly x Tom Malone). Not pod fertile but pollen fertile.
(Reed, 2019) 45" M 10" dor., dip., UF cascade
Amazing ivory-cream (near white) self with green throat. Extreme narrow form with heavy substance and ruffles on all segments. Fertile both ways. Parentage: ((Secretarys Sand x North Wind Dancer) x Ned’s Choice.) Weeping form with "spooky fingers" presentation.
46” Tall, Mid Late, 6.5”, Dormant Diploid, UF Crispate form
Black-red that twists and turns, some curling, and has a yellow throat with a hint of green. Tall, strong scapes with 5 way branching, 31 buds. Amply branched and budded with 5 branches and 31 buds in good conditions. Blooms a very long time here. This year from July 2 until well into August. Named for my Father. Probable
Achievement Medal winner.

( Murphy-JP, 2023) 26" ERe 5.25" Dormant Diploid
Cream with extremely variable blue eye, usually etched in violet. Sometimes patterned with charcoal, blue, lavender. Not registered as a poly, it exhibits 20% poly on first scapes and 40% on second scapes under good conditions. 2 branches and 18 buds on small plants, better on a clump. Janice Wood asked me to name this for her after seeing many different images. She has those piercing blue eyes, as you may have noticed.
I am introducing this at a high price and as a hybridizer-only plant for several reasons. It is glacially slow to increase. It passes on amazing attributes to its kids and grandchildren. It has pattern, poly, and rebloom genes that express in different combinations. I have at least 15 seedlings under evaluation from it. It also, with the right parent, has very vigorous children. It took me 5 years to get about 12 plants, and most are already spoken for. It increased maybe at a 2/1 rate in good conditions, and our average is 5/1. 2 plants available for summer 2026.
Out of (Energy x (Jim's Evil Grin x Faulkner Seedling))
(Murphy, 2017) 45" M 8.5", dormant, diploid, 3 branches - 22 buds (Monacan Trail x Just Jessie) UF - cascade.
Cream pink with dark reddish lavender eye, green throat, and ruffled cream edge. This can be spectacular in bloom, and looks very big. Striking as a flower show plant. Long bloom season and clear colors. Difficult pod parent and spectacular pollen parent. Clear colors on kids and very good scapes and foliage. Double fans or more.
Makes a great, colorful clump and is a fast grower.
A very tall, large cream Cascade with purple band, chartreuse throat, and cream midrib. This very imposing plant is in bloom for 3 months with moderate bud building and instant rebloom. Sunfast at 101F at 7 p.m. Rain resistant. Three branches, 22 buds initially, more after bud building. I feel that this one is worthy of awards and would like to get it distributed, so I dropped the price to make it more affordable. Started blooming June 30 and is going strong on July 23rd, and starting to make new buds. Thanks to Cynthia Marriott for coming up with the name for this one and continuing to bring up good names!
2017- Bloomed from June 22 until October 26.
( Murphy 2012) 46" Late 6.5" Dormant Diploid Cascade
If you name a daylily to honor your mother, it better be good, and this one is. It is a ruffled lavender cascade Unusual Form with an apricot throat and lemon midribs. One of the best branched cultivars that I have introduced, registered with 6 branches (and up to 8), and 32 buds. It blooms a long time, very late into the season and is a moderate budbuilder. Completely sunfast at 101F and is still open and perfect at 930pm. Out of MARGO REED INDEED by NORTH WIND DANCER. (Exceptional parentage) Pollen fertile and pod difficult. GOOD BRANCHING
(Murphy, J.P., 2025) 39" ERe 5.25" Dormant Diploid, Pattern
Cream, green throat, bluish-lavender blends into feathered raspberry patterned lavender eye, some dark cream. Cream midribs, ruffled edge. Great in the early garden and has some rebloom.
3 branches and 18 buds in good conditions.
Parentage: (Energy x Janice’s Blue Eyes) and unlike JBE it is very vigorous.
Fertile both ways and an exciting parent.
Only 3 plants for Summer 2026.
This light pink-cream with a bright rose-purple feathered eye is tall, well-branched (3-4 way) with lots of buds. It has an extended bloom season, and often reblooms. It is a CMO, open on cold mornings, and has good substance even late at night. It stands up through 90-100 degree days and rain. It is consistently showy and dependable. It is named after Jessie Cohen, a daylily friend who had a great garden and gave me much encouragement and support. It is a great pollen parent (but hard to set seeds as a pod parent), passing on the eye and great plant habits to many seedlings. Probably out of Flight of Orchids. ONLY 2 PLANTS TO SELL. Note from Jim - truly excellent parent, especially pollen. Makes branched kids.
(Murphy- JP, 2023) 37" EMRe 7" Dormant Diploid
My sister selected this one from over 2000 possibilities. Very contrasting color combination and views well from 50 feet away. Yellow with stark red eye. The form is variable from triangular to elongated to borderline cascade. Almost completely sunfast here. Blooms a long time. Fertile both ways.
Out of (Cloud Pillows x Eye Am).
Proven hardy in zone 5a.
It's sibling is My Favorite Sister.
This is a cherry red cascade, with a very green throat. It has 2 branches, 16 buds, in most conditions, but with good culture and rain, it bud builds and has 3 branches and 22 buds. Bloomed over 2 months this year. Out of Rose F. Kennedy x Earth Jewels. Unusual Form Cascade. Named for Kenan Witczak whose life was shortened by the rare Krabbe Disease. He passed away recently at 7 years old. His Grandfather asked me to name a daylily for him. His family and extended family have most of the plants, but a few are left. Fertile. I have 3 future intros with this as a parent.
Note, there is a law in Illinois now called Kenan's Law, that provides for testing at birth for this rare, devastating disease, THAT IS PREVENTABLE. When I think about it, and Kenan, I tend to cry, but tend to smile when I see this daylily bloom. Jim
(Murphy-JP, 2023) 38" ML 7" Dormant Diploid, UF Cascade
Purple to black with muted black band. Green to cream throat with cream midribs and very narrow white edge on petals. Blooms heavily for about 3 weeks here. Very sunfast for one so dark, thanks to its parentage. Two of its parents were selected for being sunfast at 90F. Fertile both ways with many interesting purple kids. 3 branches and 21 buds in good conditions.
Out of ((Grim Reaper x TNT) x Metzger's Purple Storm)
