Murphy, '06 - 40" Mla 7" dor.dip. Extremely clear lavender, striking purple eye, lemon lime throat

There is a clear color to this flower that calls from way, way, across the garden. It is a hard color to capture on film or digitally. Very clear lavender with some blue or grey in it, a striking purple eye, and lemon-lime throat. It has deep 3 and 4 way branching with very well spaced blooms, perfect for shows. It opens fully by early morning, and has a cream edge on hot days. 4 way branching, 26 buds. Fertile both ways.

Proven hardy in zone 5a in Wisconsin.
Great reports on it's performance in zone 8a, 7, 6, 5. Norfolk Va, Ohio, Seattle, Wisconsin, Indiana.
It has the nice habit of sending up scapes with some coming up just after the original ones. Not instant rebloom, but nice for a long season.

Murphy, '07 - 46" Mre 9" ev.dip.UF - crispate. Radical twirled squash-blossom gold, green throat

OCTOPUS TANGLES attracted attention on its first bloom, when 10 people were clustered around it exclaiming WOW! at its radical 14" bloom. The extreme quilled crispate blooms are a flashy gold, creped, folded, and twirled. Very green throat, and a small cream edge. Tall, with only one branch, and low teens bud count, but has reliable instant rebloom here. The huge blooms will mean a quick sell out! Midseason and EMO will equal a great show flower. Evergreen, out of two hardy parents, GREEN DRAGON by JANS TWISTER. Fertile both ways.

Parentage: GREEN DRAGON x JANS TWISTER

(Murphy, 2012) 51" EMRe 6" Dormant diploid Extended

This tall reddish lavender has a purple band, small yellow throat, yellow midrib, and tiny ruffled cream edge. It starts blooming at Early Midseason and continues until late September in good conditions. It has instant rebloom. The most important characteristic of this plant, in my mind, is that it is a bud builder, nip and tuck with MONACAN TRAIL and JIMS EVIL GRIN. Branching is moderate at 2. Initial bud count is 19, but by the end of the season, with the scapes continuing to spiral and grow buds, can be 40.
In good conditions, Bud Builders can extend the season by months. In drought conditions, they will not.

Parentage Unknown. Fertile both ways.

( Murphy 2022) 37" MRe 6.5" Dormant, Diploid; 2 branches, 15 buds.

Cream with a red-lavender patterned jagged etched eye. Light green throat and cream midribs. Strong scapes, rain-resistant blooms, very sunfast. Blooms a long time. Fertile both ways, and I have excellent future intros from it. Late-freeze resistant, dormant blue green foliage.
Out of ((( Mad Jacky x Faulkner seedling) x (Dream Sequence)) x Opal Road.)

(Murphy 09) 37" Ere 7" Sev Dip Spider

I am happy to introduce you to this great flower with a deep, wide green throat. Clear, light pink, with a rose band and that striking green throat. It is a 4:1 spider, with 2 branches and 16 buds under poor conditions, and more with good conditions. It is sunfast here, and fertile. It is out of MAD MAX by DESERT ICICLE, and should do well in a wide climactic range.

Very long bloom season. June 5 to July 24 in 2015. 2017- I love this flower with it's reliability in all conditions and great green throat. Long blooming and sunfast. June 8 until July 20 in 2022.

OUT TO GET YOU (Murphy 2016) 44” ML 5.5” Dormant Dip, 3 branches 30 buds, UF Cascade
Very dark black red cascade with a “ Sunburst” yellow throat and green heart. Good branching and a long bloom season when most are done for the year make this one stand out. In our garden, this is sunfast to 98F. Out of two nearly-sunfast parents: GRIM REAPER x FOCUS. Fertile, good parent for sunfast, dark, dormants. Very limited. Rebloomed in 2017-one of my most used parents, sets pods easily. Excellent grower.

Not registered as a rebloomer, but is now reliably reblooming for us, usually more than once.

(Murphy 09) 40" M 8.5" Sev Dip ext Cascade Unusual Form

"Striking" well describes this huge cream flower with chartreuse throat and yellow midrib. The first bloom ever on this plant was so big I couldnt believe it. It has the habit of putting out extreme first blooms on every scape, and calming down to a tiny 8.5" on last blooms. It is a low percentage polytepal, so expect some surprises. As with some huge flowers, this one has a minimal 2 branches and 12 buds in poor conditions. It can have much more with excellent care. Fragrant, extremely fertile, and an excellent parent for huge cascades. Out of a Benzinger seedling (Bmlwhuf), by LUNA. Sunfast.

( Murphy, 2021 ) 32" MLre 6.5" Dormant, Diploid

The ultimate in saturated, sunfast reds. It has a slight black sheen on the petals in the morning and a green throat. It had good rebloom this year. Late freeze- resistant blue green foliage. Three branches and 18 buds. Blooms a long time.

Pollen fertile and somewhat pod fertile. Makes very sunfast kids, mostly cascades.
A fast and reliable grower- lower price now!

Excellent parent. Sets pods easily. Passes on branching and budcount to the kids.

(Murphy, 2017) 37" EM 7" dormant, diploid, 3 branches - 20 buds (Smoke Scream x Carolina Flying Poly Possum) Polymerous 95%. Has won an HM and Extra Large Award on the National level.
Light pink cream with a lavender eye, chartreuse throat, and lemon colored pollen. This poly seems to be a favorite of all of our visitors. Visible from across the garden. Most blooms are very consistent and almost every bloom is a poly in our garden. Pod fertile only. It is very difficult, but possible to bloom seed from this.
Won an HM in 2024, and the Extra Large Diameter Award in 2024.

Excellent poly, very reliable.
Not registered as a rebloomer, but I had two sets of rebloom on some plants this year. Would probably be a good rebloomer south of here. 2022 We had 4 way branching and 25 buds.

(Murphy, J.P., 2025) 40" M 6.5" Dormant Diploid, Polymerous

Heavily ruffled cream with lavender band (bands are just on petals) and light green throat. Poly about 85%. 2 branches and 13 buds, but with a long season of bloom for the minimal bud count.
Parentage: (Octomom x Eight Is Great). Fertile both ways. Distinctive.

Named for a cool mountain in the Shenandoah Valley. Bud Builder.

Very tall lemon cream cascade with green throat, ruffled edge, and creped texture. Early morning opener, and extended bloomer, blue green foliage, and strong scapes. 100% sunfast. 2 branches and 21 buds.Bud builds to up to 34 buds. Blooms 5-6 weeks here. Fertile, out of MONACAN TRAIL by JUST JESSIE. In bloom on September 15th here, this year. Tall!
Has bloomed for 12 weeks here several years. Excellent bud builder in good conditions.

(Murphy, J.P., 2025) 30" MRe 5.25" Dormant Diploid, Polymerous

Much anticipated introduction of this unique, heavily re-blooming poly.

Cream to light lemon cream with green throat, reddish lavender extended eye with veins, and cream midrib. It patterns but is variable in some weather. Ruffled petals. 80% poly on first scapes here, and 99.5% on rebloom scapes. It starts at mid season and in most years reblooms multiple times until it freezes. One year it rebloomed 4 times on average and one year just once. Limited branching and bud count at 2 branches and 10 buds.
However, in 2025, with good rain, it averaged 3 branches and 14 buds.

I guess the coolest thing about this flower is that it is distinct and unique.

Parentage: (((Starlight Splash x Faulkner seedling) x Flight of Orchids) x (Snooks Harville seedling x Starlight Splash))

It therefore has poly genes, reblooming genes, and pattern genes. I have several future introductions from this one. Fertile both ways.

It has a large grass green throat with very ruffled, lighter edged petals. The sepals are so rolled that you can't see the edge. It has three branches and 17 buds, with instant rebloom, for a long season. It proliferates heavily. It is dormant, and has famous parentage, carrying genes for ruffled edges, red, chartreuse, and yellow, ensuring that it will be in demand by hybridizers. Award Winner.

Absolutely glowing gold and orange blend that lightens to creamy gold in the afternoon. In my quest for hard dormant layered double diploids, this one checks all of my boxes. It doubles almost always, and shows around 90% layered form. Sunfast, period, with freeze resistant foliage! Pairs well with Brother Coal.
I registered it with 3 branches OOPS! Clumps this year have perfect 5 and 6 way branching and a large amount of buds. It is very consistent and reliable. Lemon cream with a jagged red black eye. Light green throat. The scapes are among the sturdiest that I have ever seen on a diploid. A really excellent contrast in colors coupled with a bloom habit that allows blooms to open up and down the scapes. Heavily branched and budded. 4 branches and 27 buds. In 2023, I have a plant with 6 branches. Excellent Parent of Industrial Strength, and several futures.
Named for the former Light House near the current town of Stingray Point on the Chesapeake Bay at the eastern terminus of Route 33. The original name came from colonial times. Captain John Smith was stung by and seriously injured by a Cownose Ray at this location. He was tended to by a Native American healer who used a specific salt mud poultice to help his injury. The area got its name after this occurrence.
